Step 2: Set Up Anthropic Claude

Visit console.anthropic.com on your phone or computer

Create your account

Visit console.anthropic.com and sign up with your email or Google account.

Add credits

Go to Settings → Billing. Add a credit card and purchase credits to get started. A small amount goes a long way.

Create your API key

Go to Settings → API Keys and tap "Create Key." Give it any name — "PrayerConnect" works great.

Copy your key immediately

Your key starts with sk-ant- and is shown only once. Copy it now and treat it like a password — do not share it.

Step 3: Set Up Google Gemini

Skip this slide if you chose Anthropic Claude

Sign in to Google Cloud

Visit console.cloud.google.com and sign in with your Google account.

Create a project and enable billing

Create a new project (or select an existing one). Then go to Billing in the sidebar and attach a billing account with a credit card.

Enable the Gemini API

Use the search bar at the top to search for "Generative Language API" and enable it for your project.

Create your API key in AI Studio

Visit aistudio.google.com → Get API Key → Create API Key. Select your billing-enabled project. Copy the key — it starts with AIza.

⚠️ Important: Make sure your API key is linked to a project with billing enabled. Keys from projects without billing will not work reliably in apps.

Step 4: Add Your Key to PrayerConnect

This is where your key gets stored securely on your device

Open Settings

Tap the Settings tab (gear icon) at the bottom of PrayerConnect.

Tap "AI Features"

If this is your first time, read through the consent screens and agree to continue.

Paste your key

Paste your key into the Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini field and tap Save. You will see a confirmation that your key is active.

Generate your first prayer

Open any person's profile and tap the sparkles ✦ button to generate a personalized prayer for them.

✅ All set! Your key is stored in iOS Keychain — the same secure storage used for Face ID and saved passwords. We never see it.

Tips & Common Questions

Your Key Stays on Device

API keys are stored in iOS Keychain and never transmitted to PrayerConnect's servers.

Try Again Anytime

Not happy with a generated prayer? Tap "Try Again" to generate a new one — you only keep what you like.

Fill In My Profile

The more you fill in under Settings → My Profile, the more personal and on-voice the generated prayers become.

Remove Anytime

Go to Settings → AI Features → Remove. Your key is deleted from Keychain immediately and AI features turn off.

My prayer generation failed — what do I do?

Check that your API key is saved correctly in Settings → AI Features
Verify your account has available credits or billing is active
Make sure you are connected to the internet
If the error persists, try removing and re-entering your key

Can I use both Claude and Gemini at the same time?

Yes. You can add keys for both providers and switch between them in Settings → AI Features → Preferred Provider. Only the selected provider is used when generating a prayer.

What happens to my prayers if I remove my API key?

Prayers you have already generated and kept are saved on your device and are not affected. Removing your API key only disables the ability to generate new prayers going forward. Your key is deleted from Keychain and AI features are hidden until you add a key again.

Is there a limit to how many prayers I can generate?

PrayerConnect itself sets no limit. The only constraint is your API account balance with Anthropic or Google. You can monitor your usage in Settings → AI Features which shows the number of AI requests made from this device.
